New DSM diagnosis

Symptoms: child cannot not be held. Cries, screams uncontrollably if the mother uses her arms for ANY activity other than hold their child. Symptoms increase at the following times: while making supper/doing dishes, while making important phone calls, when another child is crying, and during clean up time. The mother is often seen attempting to walk with child attached to a leg.

Treatments: unknown at this time, although seems to improve with age. For example, a child of 4 no longer needs held, but symptoms do reappear when child needs to be separated from mother to go to school or Sunday School or to go get something out of the dining room when mother is in the living room.

For some reason, this diagnosis seems to be more frequent in boys rather than girls, although girls' attachment may be with the father, but to a lesser degree.
